e-power® launches P-grid: “gamechanger for peak shaving”

Hybrid energy solution dramatically reduces costs and environmental impact
Munich, April 2 – At Bauma, the largest trade fair for construction and mining machinery, the Belgian company e-power® introduces its new P-grid for the European market. The P-grid is an innovative hybrid energy solution for peak shaving - with a generator and a battery in one - that significantly reduces costs and environmental impact. e-power® will also announce ambitious future plans in collaboration with Honda.
e-power® combines a Stage 5 diesel generator and a lead-carbon battery in one compact power unit. The P-grid serves as an alternative to diesel generators, which traditionally provide power on construction sites, industrial locations, events, etc. Through peak shaving, the P-grid makes a difference: flattening peaks by smartly using the lead-carbon battery pack. The Belgian company e-power® is the first to bring the concept to the market on a large scale.
Smarter energy management
Kurt Van Dal, CEO and owner of e-power®: “Today, you still often see large generators running continuously because they need to deliver peak power at any moment. This, of course, consumes a lot of fuel, while in reality, you only have such peak loads for a few seconds or minutes at a time. The P-grid solves this problem: the battery delivers the peak power, while the generator ensures that there is always power and the battery remains optimally charged.”
This leads to a drastic reduction in fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions. For sectors such as construction - which are under pressure to urgently become more sustainable - the P-grid is a real gamechanger. Kurt Van Dal added: “Moreover, you need much less maintenance. It is not only a cost saving but also a gain in sustainability and reliability. And with a payback period of one to three years, it is an investment that pays off quickly.”
Flexible and reliable
The secret of the P-grid lies in the combination of generator and battery pack. Kurt Van Dal added: “In the P-grid, it is a lead-carbon battery pack. It is a real powerhouse, twice as powerful and safer than lithium batteries.” The hybrid concept also provides more flexibility. The P-grid can be used both on-grid and as a standalone energy source in off-grid situations. As a standalone unit, with external connections for additional power, or even connected in parallel with other P-grids.
The service is also fully optimized, including through the integrated monitoring platform. This offers real-time monitoring via a SIM card, automatic maintenance notifications, and remote troubleshooting. This increases reliability and minimizes downtime. The P-grid redefines peak shaving with an all-in-one solution: compact, user-friendly, and easy to operate via a central control display.
Savings of €2000 per week
At BAM, one of the largest construction companies in Ireland and a global player, the P-grid is already in full use, to the great satisfaction of the project management. “The P-grid has solved a 30-year-old problem for us,” says Tommy Flaherty, Plant and Assets Director. “Where we used to rely on noisy, fuel-guzzling generators, the P-grid now provides smart and much quieter power on our sites. One P-grid replaces two traditional generators, saves €2,000 per week in fuel (for a site with 2 tower cranes), minimizes maintenance and downtime, and makes our projects more sustainable. We see the P-grid as a strategic long-term investment – and a great help in meeting the European 2030 targets.”

e-power® and Honda look towards an emission-free future from 2026
The Belgian company has another scoop at Bauma: e-power® will announce that the 30-year collaboration with Honda will be further deepened with the co-development of the next generation P-grid. The system – based on Honda's Fuel Cell hydrogen technology – is expected to hit the market in 2026 but is already being presented in a 3D animation. This innovative zero-emission solution will contribute to a quieter and greener energy supply.
"Our collaboration with Honda allows us to implement hydrogen technology in hybrid energy systems,” says Kurt Van Dal. “With the P-grid powered by Honda’s Fuel Cell Module, we make emission-free power supply and minimal noise pollution possible, ideal for sectors with strict sustainability goals. We look forward to embracing this technology as a future-ready company from 2026.”
