Customer testimonial - "P-grid has solved a 30-year-old problem for us"

BAM on jobsite using P-grid

For BAM, one of the country’s largest construction companies and a global player, a reliable and efficient power supply is crucial for smooth operations, yet traditional power solutions present significant challenges. "For the past 30 years, we’ve struggled with noisy, fuel-guzzling generators," Tommy Flaherty (Plant and Assets Director) explains. "With the construction industry moving toward sustainability, we needed a smarter solution. The P-grid has delivered that.”

Since implementing the P-grid, BAM has transformed the way it manages power on-site. Large 200 kVA generators ran continuously, consuming vast amounts of fuel, generating excessive noise, and rarely operating at their economic optimum.

"One P-grid has replaced two traditional generators," Declan explains. Unlike conventional generators that run non-stop, the P-grid optimizes energy use by running only when necessary. This prevents the generator from wearing and inefficiency. "A standard generator operates for 12 hours non-stop, but every restart means it never reaches its ideal operating capacity. The P-grid eliminates that issue, making it far more efficient."

The impact on costs has been immediate. "For this site operating two tower cranes, we save €2,000 per week on fuel alone. Plus, in over a year of use, we haven’t needed any maintenance, meaning no downtime and related costs." Reduced fuel consumption also means fewer emissions and less noise pollution—both critical factors in making construction projects more sustainable and meeting European 2030 goals.

Reliable, smart, and easy to use

Beyond efficiency, the P-grid offers exceptional reliability. "It has never let us down during peak loads," BAM confirms. The system handles them with ease, managing peak loads for several seconds without issue. "For peak shaving, the P-grid is more than capable, and it provides the stability we need on-site."

Ease of use has also been a key advantage. "The P-grid is truly plug-and-play. The display is clear, and any minor issues we encountered were immediately picked up and resolved via remote access, by the e-power technical team or our sales contact.” Unlike conventional systems that require constant monitoring and frequent servicing, the P-grid’s advanced design minimizes downtime and maintenance needs.

A long-term investment that immediately pays off

BAM has been using 5 P-grids for over a year, with plans to expand their fleet as needed. "We didn’t actively search for this solution—e-power’s sales team introduced it to us, and we were intrigued. After visiting their factory, we were completely convinced. Now, we’re very happy with our decision, as it has delivered on its promise of reducing the cost from day one."

That’s why BAM sees it as a strategic long-term decision. "You have to look at the bigger picture. Over its lifespan, the return is clear—not just in fuel savings, but in reduced emissions and lower maintenance costs." The only consideration is that it’s quite heavy, so you need to plan for its placement in advance. A standard forklift won’t do the job. Of course, that is literally far outweighed by the benefits.”

The future of power in construction

Looking ahead, BAM sees the P-grid becoming a standard solution in their projects. " As sustainability regulations tighten and fuel costs continue to rise, solutions like the P-grid will become essential." Would they recommend it to other companies? "Absolutely. It’s efficient, reliable, and a game-changer for construction sites. The P-grid is definitely the way forward for the construction industry."
